Group A1 of the UEFA Nations League is developing exactly as expected so far. Portugal and Croatia are battling for the top of the table, while Poland and Scotland are worried about avoiding relegation. The Scots experienced another bitter disappointment on the last matchday as a late equaliser in injury time against Croatia was disallowed, so the score remained 2-1 for the Balkan country. This was Scotland's third defeat in a row and things are looking bad for the Scots, who are now more in danger than ever of being relegated to the second division. Their record from the last three home games against Portugal is also rather modest 2 draws and one defeat, which further diminishes the hope of a surprise victory at Hampden Park. Coach Steve Clarke therefore has the difficult task of getting the team back on its feet and getting a few points in it's very first Nations League A season to at least avoid being relegated as bottom of the group. On the other hand, things are quite the opposite in the Portuguese camp. In the current season, they are close to reaching the knockout rounds after comfortably beating Poland 3-1. However, there have been goals conceded in each of the three games so far, which shows that there is still room for improvement. When Portugal is playing away from home in the last eight matches only one team scored a goal in seven of these games.
